Aikido is a Japanese martial art that combines harmonious cooperation with martial technique that has evolved from the traditional Japanese martial arts.
Aikido translates as “The way of unifying with life energy.” Aikido was founded by Morihei Ueshiba, known to Aikido students as “O’Sensei” (Great Teacher). After training in many other martial arts, O’Sensei created Aikido as an evolutionary step from the other martial arts.
Rather than focus on conflict as a solely physical entity, Aikido highlights how we can face both the physical and mental aspects of a confrontation. Aikido pushes us to be more centered, self-aware, free, and confident people, who are able to not only understand our own predicaments but those of others as well.
